Aiming for excellence is the Royal NZ College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) assessment instrument for general practice accreditation and quality improvement. It focuses on how practices deliver care to patients in the setting of New Zealand general practice. Personal healthcare, population health care, including screening, other preventative health services and health promotion are measured to assess the quality and change in quality of care provided. Cornerstone - Aiming for excellence is the College standard for general practice in NZ to ensure that general practice meet the minimum legal and safety standards, standards that guide further improvements in practice systems and clinical care. Cornerstone - Aiming for excellence meets the requirements of the NZ Public Health and Disability Act 2000 for the development, use and monitoring of a nationally consistant standard and quality programme for organised general practice services and patient safety.
